We had a problem with the Hypercom Optimum T4220 connecting through a Sonicwall firewall. You will need ports 19000/tcp, 19900/tcp and 25075/tcp to be opened on your Sonicwall

We had problems passing Netflix on a Samsung BD-C6900 through a Sonicwall TZ170. We found that the Sonicwall Anti-Spyware services built into the Sonicwall were blocking access. The key was to setup the Samsung BD-C6900 using DHCP static address and exclude the Samsung BD-C6900 from being scanned with the Anti-Spyware service on the Sonicwall.

Just over a week ago, I signed up for the Company Plan 3 using Central Desktop (http://centraldesktop.com).  The driving force was to find a online collaboration tool for our team.  We are using Sharepoint from Office 2010 which worked well but was looking for something that would give us Wiki capabilities along w/file sharing and portal for clients.

Most of my Wiki experience was online with various tools including Confluence.  So far, I’m very pleased with the layout of the Wiki tools in comparison to others I have used.  The ability to tie clients into the Wiki and to e-mail them updates appears to be very useful.

The file sharing in comparison to Sharepoint is good but needs work.  The plug-ins for MS Office help but still feel a little clunky. They offer a service for Web Folders which is great but it’s Read-Only. We pay 130+ a month and I only get Read-Only access to file I have uploaded. Of course I can edit via the web interface or open with the MS Office plug-in but it would be nice to do this without the Read-Only tag. This way the whole team could map a drive and use as a network drive. I hope they change this in future versions.

They also allow you to setup a database which is great. You can create the database to store client/customer data and design the look and feel. Very nice and easy to share the data w/the team.

They also provide a spreadsheet and word processor, much like Google Docs. They are a little slow to open but function fine once open.

After one week I like the product. I think it’s a little pricey for 130+ per month but the set of tools is great and seems to be well thought out. The web folders is the one item that needs to be updated to allow full access via WebDav but for now we can look over that.

The Content Filter Service (CFS) of the Sonicwall will block movies on demand through a Sonicwall TZ Series. To get around this, do the following:

  1. You need to give your Directv a static IP address under Network/DHCP. If you need help on that part, let me know
  2. Go to Security Services / Content Filter
  3. Scroll down to CFS Exclusion List
  4. Check the box to “Enable CFS Exclusion List” – Very Important
  5. Click Add and input the IP of your DirectTV box
  6. Click Accept on the top of the page

Instinet needs the following ports setup on the Sonicwall Firewall:
FTP Data 20/tcp (internal to Sonicwall)
FTP Control 21/tcp (internal to Sonicwall)
Instinet_2021 2021/tcp
Instinet_4100 4100-4130/tcp
Instinet_6000 6000/tcp

Create those under Firewall/Services and then create a Service Group call Instinet_Group and place those in there. Setup a LAN to WAN rule with this group and you should be good.

Bloomberg needs the following ports opened on the firewall:
48129-48137/udp
8194-8196/tcp
8209-8220/tcp
8290-8294/tcp

These can be added under Firewall/Services. Add four services something like:
bloomberg_48129
bloomberg_8194
bloomberg_8209
bloomberg_8290

Then created a group called Bloomberg and add these four services to the group. Then go into Firewall, LAN->WAN and allow from Firewall Subnets to Any using Bloomberg and you should be good. These port definitions are from the latest Transport and Security Specification dated May 10, 2010.

As always, define your outbound rules by services groups and do not setup LAN->WAN Any rules. This is sloppy firewall configuration and makes it hard to troubleshoot issues.

If trying to use TC Futures Chat through a firewall and having problems, you will need to open port 18001/tcp on your firewall to allow access. On a Sonicwall, create a service for TC Futures Chat and then setup a rule to use that service from your firewalled subnets to the Any.

Hope that helps

Beware of these e-mails that appear to come from GoDaddy. They look legit but if you mouse over the links, they take you to non-GoDaddy sites and appear to be infected with Malware. I received 5 of them today and they were able to make it past our filters (Postini/Google/Trendmicro), so please be aware.

If using the website TC Futures Chat or http://www.traderscapitalchat.net/, and having problems using their chat rooms, your firewall is probably to blame. They use chat software from Host Gator and configured to use ports 20001/tcp and 843/tcp. Using a Sonicwall, create the two services (tc_chat1 and tc_chat2) on those specific ports and then great a Service Group called TC_Chat_Group. Add the two services you created and then setup a LAN -> WAN rule.

Let me know of any issues.

On the Home Screen, press the Menu Button or Blackberry Button (left of pearl)

1. Select Settings
2. Select Options
3. Select Security Options
4. Select Security Wipe
5. Choose the options to wipe (careful if you have a media card)
6. Type “blackberry” in the box (not quotes needed)
7. Select Wipe

It will take a few minutes to go through the different settings and then the phone will reboot. Hope that helps.
